Sleipnir

Odin's eight-legged horse, "The best of all horses", is also a child of Loki, who was Sleipnir's mother. It's an interesting story and amusing, unless you're Loki.

This is a reduction print, meaning the three colors were printed from one block by carving away successive layers. Once an area has been cut away, it cannot be printed again. This limits the print run to the total number of good prints achieved in the final color run.

This linocut is approximately 5" x 7.5" and was inked and printed by hand. I don't have a press, so the printing was done using a barren, and a lot of 'oomph' pressure. As a result, every print is different and there are always areas of light ink coverage and occasionally spots where the ink shows up in the background. Registration of the multiple colors is not perfect.

Each print is on an 11x14 sheet of Rives BFK White or Somerset Printmaking paper and the custom mixed color was Speedball water soluble printing ink. All prints are signed and numbered in an edition of 19.
