Silver Mesh Cowboy Hat Pendant Necklace With Original Spun Silver Cannetille Links To Match Hat

ITEM: A fantastic and unusual piece of vintage figural jewelry that most likely hails from Portugal retailer or possibly Mexico, this fun pendant necklace features a cowboy hat of spun silver, a.k.a. Cannetille as its primary design. The top of the hat is the cannetille, a little flower all done in those coiled wires that some say goes back to paper quilling, lace tatting and textile design, brought into the jewelry world many, many years ago. The brim of the hat is a fine mesh and the sides are solid with a ridged detail. A wire rope tie encircling the hat adds a nice touch as well. The cowboy (cowgirl?) hat pendant is on her original chain, featuring cannetille filled, baton links with hand built chain between each wire filled, elongated link. The finish is a simple hook and eye set up, one end with a hand benched hook, flat and wide, and the other end with a larger sized O ring, soldered right onto the last cannetille baton link. This is such an unusual piece that when I saw it laid out at a sale - it literally stopped me in my tracks! I hadn't been looking at that point and as so often seems to happen - these are exactly the times I seem to find some of my personal favorites - when im not intentionally looking. Isn't that just the way though? lol Anyways, Its not an everyday find but also not what I would call rare. Simply less often found I would say. The metals are silver but at what level of purity I do not know. I do know that many of the “spun silver” (cannetille) pieces Ive had which were marked, tended to be 850 or continental silver. But Ive also had pieces test as sterling (925) and even 950 purity - so to know for certain, you'd need to probably test at a pawn shop with high tech machine that will tell you everything in this particular mix. Regardless of actual silver purity percentage, this incredibly fun, unusual necklace has so much eye appeal, has been made using a technique which is very highly skilled to create, hand benched findings and look fantastic on or off - Id probably find a place to hang it out in the open to enjoy it everyday! An unsigned beauty of very high style and flair, this necklace has one more aspect to discuss; wearability. While not all vintage and antique pieces are easily worn, those with big dimension and loads of tiered stoning, those pieces too fragile to want to wear everyday, this one is very wearable! The chain itself is incredibly interesting, when you look up close you'll see what I mean, the pendant adding a chef's kiss to the whole piece. Unusual, well crafted, wearable vintage cannetille necklace. Hip as can be my friends, hip as can be!

SIZE: This incredible necklace measures 26” end to end with a width of 1/8” at the widest parts of the links. The pendant hat is very dimensional and measures 2” tall and 1 1/2” across. It stands about 1/4” deep.

CONDITION: In good vintage condition showing age appropriate wear overall. Some darker areas of tarnish and patina. I don't see any rust or verdigris but darker areas are primarily in tightly coiled wire work, crevices and mesh. I don't use abrasive methods for any vintage or antique pieces to try to preserve the original surface. I do use a soft cloth chamois to remove surface dirt and oils however. If you prefer brighter surfaces, want me to polish for you then send a note at checkout and add a day to shipping schedule for proper time to do the job. There's no right or wrong with polishing, just personal preference. For myself, I enjoy seeing original surfaces prior to polishing and sometimes feel it adds depth and dimension to the design. When thats the case, I leave it as is. Ok, sorry I digressed. I see no bends or breaks to the hat shaped pendant. No broken mesh, no brim issues and no rust or verdigris noted. The chain has a couple of connector links askew. Not missing, still attached, just askew. An easy fix that I might take care of if time permits. Two minutes for a professional jeweler I'm sure! I see no bends, breaks, kinks or missing wirework. The clasp is intact and functional, a simple hook and eye style of clasp. No makers marks noted. Wearable, fun and flirty vintage cannetille. How sweet it is!
