This evergreen perennial plant grows with large tuberous roots and is native to South Africa. It is a member of the Amaryllis family and has brilliant clusters of orange funnel shaped flowers.

Flowers rise from thick clumps on 2' long stalks. Blooms early Winter- Late Spring.

Cannot survive frost, so grow indoors in cold climates. Lowest temp. is 50*F.

Does best in well protected parts of the garden and shady borders with ferns, azaleas, and other shade loving plants.

Clivia needs ample light, dappled or bright indirect shade is best. Here in So. California, we place plants on East facing wall to get morning sun.

Plant with top of tuber just above soil line. Clumps will grow undisturbed for years.

Water well then allow the top 1/2 of soil to get dry out before watering again. Clivia prefers to be on the dry side. Pale green or oranges lesions on the leaves show if you are over-watering.

Consider adding sand to cactus & succulent mix to ensure proper drainage.

Feed Clivia when flowers finish blooming, and fertilize monthly from July to October, with a balanced indoor plant food at 1/2 strength. Never fertilize in winter when plant is dormant or next years growth will be weak and gangly.

Plant likes to be root bound and retailer will flower more if several are squeezed into a pot.

If insects like mealy bugs bother your plant-- remove with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol.

Remove spent flower blooms by cutting at base of stalk.
