This bottle was in a large trunk of Wheaton bottles obtained from a collector living in Southern New Jersey by my parents in the 70's.

Wheaton Glass in retailer Southern New Jersey took up the task of reproducing some of the hundreds of colorful, attractive and often humorous designs of the originals which reached their height of popularity in the United States between 1860-1906, around the time of the Civil War. The Temperance movement gave more popularity for the herbal concoctions with their alcohol content to cure a multitude of ills and not be seen drinking the hard stuff.

Bitters are a form of patent or proprietary medicine made by steeping herbs, roots, and other spices in alcohol. They likely originated from medieval apothecaries, and were first patented for sale in 18th-century England, where they were concocted by so-called physicians who claimed the bitters were remedies for multiple human concerns such as digestive and circulatory disorders, as well as female and male enhancements. The list was long.
