A very nice old imari dish probably from the Meiji era. It has been beautifully decorated in underglaze blue, red, gold and small areas of green. It has been carefully retailer restored; it is quite hard to see unless you look closely but I hope the last photos show the area quite well.
The porcelain is thinly potted, has a smooth foot rim with one small chip and the dish sags a little in the centre. The rim undulates gently and still shows a fair amount of the gilding along the edge. In style and shape, the dish appears to imitate earlier chinese ko-sometsuke pieces which were made for the Japanese market.
There are no marks to the base and I am unsure as to the dating, but it is a lovely item regardless of its age. The approximate dimensions are 16.5 cms wide, 2.5 cms high (internally about 1 cm) and it weighs 261 g.
