Last summer I took my daughters, ages 6 retailer and 9, on their first backpacking trip. We were hiking on the Mogollon Rim, on the heels of a monsoon storm that drenched the region all week. Now, if you have kids you know that keeping children engaged can be quite the challenge... so I had my girls scavenge for mushrooms growing along the trail. These tiny wild mushrooms were one of their discoveries.

For the record, this task engaged both of my girls for our 3 day trip through the forest.
