Made from an old wooden ceiling joist, disused aluminium gas fittings and reclaimed copper and steel gas pipe. Started during lockdown, these pieces of wood and metal have had a rough life and were destined for the scrap heap. So I decided to make something out of them.

The finished item been given a slightly distressed look. The wood has been fine-sanded. There are burn marks on the wood, scratches and dents on the copper and grip marks on the steel pipe as well as the aluminium fittings which have been wire brush-polished as well as the odd spot of solder. The wood is coated with 3 coats of natural pine outdoor varnish.
The maple leaf on the bottom is my logo (love all things Canadian!) but it can be removed if desired.
The steel pipes and fittings as well as aluminium fittings have been brush-polished, the copper pipe and brass fittings have been cleaned with Brasso to give them a lovely shine and a nice contrast to the steel and aluminium.
If you're going to put this outside or in a wet environment the untreated steel fittings will rust if exposed - I recommend wiping them over with some 3-in-1 oil or equivalent every few months to avoid this - failing that you can paint them any colour you like.
The flanges (the bits that sit flat on the wall) are aluminium, won't rust and have 6 holes in each of them. I recommend that you use at least three of them each side to support the shelves - I have used all 12 as it's aesthetically more pleasing. All the aluminium fittings have had the screw holes counter-sunk to hide the screw head. Please be mindful of whatever surface you're drilling into - wood, concrete, brick or plaster and use a stud/cable/pipe detector before you drill! I used 1.5" screws in a brick wall and it was able to hold my bodyweight. I recommend using at least 1" screws with the appropriate rawlplugs.
