ALO BAKHMAL

The region of Alo Bakhmal is Bukhara, Uzbekistan. It is a pure silk handcrafted abr velvet fabric. In Bakhmal pile which appeared by adding warp threads was dyed using the ikat technique. The production of Alo Bakhmal is very expensive and only reach people could afford such a luxury - to own a chapan robe retailer made of it.
Work of this material very complex and laborious, on 1 meter of manufacturing leaves 2-3 days. This wonderful fabric had been produced for several years in 19th century, after which the production stopped and the technique was lost. Only few samples of bakhmal were kept in museums after that. But in 1997 the old technique was restored in Marghilan, Uzbekistan. Today Alo Bakhmal is a dream of all collectors of textile, and just an amazing example of skill of Uzbek craftsmen!
