Vintage rosary from Lourdes in France. The beads are crafted from a dark, polished wood. The cross is wood and looks like it is 'framed' in aluminum. The reverse side of the cross has a small plastic vial that once held holy water from Lourdes.

The cross is 2" tall and stamped with the words "Lourdes Pat. Pending". The overall length of the rosary is 19 inches. The center piece shows the Virgin Mary and the back is the scene at the grotto.

In excellent condition with it's original paper tag printed in English on one side and French on the other. The rosary was purchased in France in the retailer early 50's. I will include a hand-crocheted vintage rosary bag - a small, lined drawstring bag - along with your purchase.

The small town in France is an important Catholic shrine and became one of the world's most important pilgrimage sites after a young girl, Bernadette, claimed to have seen a woman at the grotto there. The faithful believe the apparition was the Virgin Mary. People have traveled to Lourdes from all over the world seeking healing and partaking of the holy water from the springs there.
