Mr. Western Tanager, needle felted bird retailer sculpture

The red color in the face of the Western Tanager is a rare pigment in birds. Since the pigment cannot be manufactured by the birds, it must be acquired from their diet of insects. The insects acquire the pigment color from the plants they eat!

My Western Tanager is needle felted, a time consuming process in which wool roving is repeatedly poked by a barbed needle until the desired shape is formed. Great care has been taken to accurately depict the tanangers markings, coloring and size. He stands on sturdy wire feet and is life size at 7 inches.

Your bird will be custom made once you place your order and payment is received. I usually ship within 3-5 days, but it depends on how many orders I have. Allow more time especially during busy holidays or with multiple orders. During the Christmas rush I am overloaded with orders by the end of October, so please order early!!

Please remember that these birds are not meant to be handled by small children.
