Description

Product Name: 19thC. retailer Norwegian Copper Tea Kettle

retailer This 19th century copper kettle is made by Frøiland, the Norwegian manufacturer whose name is stamped on the handle. It was designed to sit in one of the holes on top of a wood-burning stove, resting on the flange that goes around the kettle. There are are two sets of initials stippled on the handle: “LO” and “S.S.” The lid has a brass knob.

The small clapper lid on the spout is missing, and there are dings and dents appropriate to the age of this venerable utensil but otherwise the kettle is waterproof and in amazingly good condition, although recommended for display only. A bit of elbow grease and copper polish can make it gleam, if you like your antiques shiny.

The teakettle is 8" in diameter, 7-1/2" high without the handle, which adds 1-5/8" in height. It's made of a heavier gauge copper than usual and weighs 3 lbs. Max capacity is 4 qts or 128 oz or 16 cups. To the stoveline (flange) this kettle hold 80 oz. or 10 cups. This kettle can still be used on a stovetop to boil water.
