Horsepower to Burn #12226 is one of the earlier figurines from the Trail of Painted Ponies collection, and is made of ceramics rather than resin. Designed by Rich Mattson and made by Westland in the early 2000s, it was formally retired in July of 2007. The figurine itself measures approximately 6" tall, 7" long and 2 3/8" wide. The base is 5 1/2" long and 2 1/2" wide.
Rich came of age in the '50s when hot rods and drag racing were "cool," when flames and checkered flags were stock images in car magazines. Years later Rich would draw on those times, those memories, when he was encouraged to paint a Pony by a stock car racing fan.
This particular pony is number 3,458 from the 2nd edition. It comes with the original box, tag and packaging. The box was opened upon receipt to ensure everything was in order and undamaged, but has been stored in a closet in a non-smoking household ever since.
